– Proverbs – proverbs are popular
saying which contain advice
or state a generally accepted truth. Most proverbs are
worded in a way that they can easily
be remembered and
have been passed down through time. Ask
your parents/grandparents
about proverbs they may have heard when they were growing
up. Proverbs often use
metaphors and it is in understanding these metaphors that can
help us work out their
meaning. For your
homework this week – find 3 common proverbs and find out what
they mean. Remember
these proverbs may be used in our class quiz coming up in week 10.

What
a super busy week, last week was. Thank
you to Mrs Thomas, Mr Marsh and Tylers Nana for
supervising teams at the
hockey, it was a great day out and we did very well with the Rascals in a shoot
out in the Year 5/6 mixed grade for 2nd and 3rd
position. Also thank you to Mrs Thomas
and Mrs Winch for helping with
the food preparation on Friday. The food was delicious who knew broccoli and
cauliflower could taste that good!! Children were asked to bring along $3 to
support a needy school in Vanuatu – Weka class also thought
it would be really helpful
for the school if we could bring along from home a book that is no longer
read. The school library at the Vanuatu
school only has 1 shelf of books.
Some
children are busy preparing for the year 5/6 rippa rugby tournament. Thank you to Mr Marsh and
Mr Waters for their
lunchtime coaching. Remember to check
the school calendar on the website for
upcoming event.
We
had great fun stuffing plastic bottles with plastic – can you keep sending in
bottles (not square shaped
or milk bottles) along with plastic rubbish. It was surprising what we picked up on the
walkway clean up –
a pair of overalls!
Mathletics – Please complete at least 500 points this week.
Spelling Homework – Abbreviations are shortened forms of
words. Writers save time and space
by
using them.

of words.
They are spoken
either as a word, or by their letter names.
Complete the following activity for abbreviations and
acronyms then try and find 3 more.
Remember the spelling activities we have doing for homework are to be

Homework Term 2 Week 3
On Wednesday we celebrate Catholic Schools Day. Part of our
celebration includes getting out into the community – Weka Room along with
Hoiho and Kereru is undertaking an exciting environmental project. On
Wednesday we plan on collecting rubbish from the walkway (alongside the
motorway). On Friday we will stuff plastic bottles with rubbish to make
plastic bricks. These bottle bricks are being made for an Earthbench
project at Victory. Please visit www.earthbench.org for information on this
amazing work. We will need parent helpers on Wednesday – an email with
more details will come out today. Could children please bring to school
throughout the week plastic bottles and plastic rubbish e.g. plastic bags,
wrappers, receipts, twist ties, shiny paper etc. During the week we will
be reading and writing about the impact of plastic on our environment
particularly oceans and sealife.
